What to Expect From a Home-Care Consultation

What to bring, what to ask and how to decide whether the proposed plan fits.

3 min read · Updated October 2026

A consultation is a conversation about the person’s day and the help being considered. You do not need to arrive with a perfect care plan. Specific examples of what is difficult are enough to start. Care Connect at Home offers a free in-home consultation with no obligation to begin.

Bring the everyday details

  • The tasks your relative can do alone and those needing assistance.
  • The days and times when family help is unavailable.
  • Preferences about routines, activities and visitors.
  • Medical instructions relevant to the requested tasks.
  • The main family contact and any decision-making arrangements.

Include the person receiving care in the conversation where possible. Ask what help they would welcome and what they would prefer to keep doing themselves.

Ask about the proposed plan

Discuss the caregiver match, included tasks, schedule, current availability and price. Ask how the office handles an absence or a request to change caregivers. Get the important terms in writing before making a decision.

Care Connect at Home has no long-term contracts. You should still understand scheduling and cancellation terms rather than assuming “no contract” means there are no agreed requirements.

Be clear about payment

Care Connect at Home does not currently accept or coordinate Medicare, Medicaid or VA benefits. Contact us for a quote for privately arranged non-medical care.

If insurance reimbursement is part of your plan, check the insurer’s requirements directly. Bring those questions up before relying on a benefit.

Take time to decide

A free visit does not require you to start care. Review whether the tasks, schedule and communication arrangements fit your household. Ask for clarification about anything that sounds vague or different from what you expected.

Written by Care Connect at Home. General information about non-medical support, not medical advice. Confirm clinical needs with a qualified professional.

Common questions

Do we need a doctor’s order for non-medical care?

You can contact the agency directly about everyday support. Clinical services, restrictions and medical decisions must still be discussed with the appropriate professional.
