How Much Does Home Care Cost in Michigan?

Michigan median rates from national survey data, what changes the price, and how to compare quotes fairly.

5 min read · Updated October 2026

The clearest starting point for Michigan is national survey data. The 2025 Cost of Care data from CareScout puts the median rate for a non-medical home caregiver in Michigan at about $35 per hour, level with the national median.

A median is a useful yardstick, not a quote. Your actual rate depends on the schedule you need, the tasks involved and the shift length. Two families on the same block can receive very different quotes, and both can be reasonable.

What moves the number up or down

  • Hours per week. A few visits a week costs very differently from daily coverage.
  • Shift length. Short visits carry the highest hourly rate; long shifts, live-in and 24-hour care carry the lowest.
  • Level of care. Companionship and homemaking sit at the lower end; hands-on personal care and memory care need more skill and cost more.
  • Overnights and weekends. Awake overnight coverage is priced differently from a sleeping live-in arrangement.
  • How fast care needs to start. Same-week starts after a hospital discharge are usually possible, but they limit caregiver choice.

Does Medicare pay for home care in Michigan?

Medicare covers eligible skilled home health under specific conditions. It does not cover round-the-clock care at home or personal care when that is the only care needed. Care Connect at Home provides non-medical care and does not currently accept or coordinate Medicare, Medicaid or VA benefits.

How to compare quotes fairly

  1. 1Ask for the hourly rate at the shift length you actually need, not the headline rate.
  2. 2Ask whether caregivers are employees with insurance and workers' compensation, or contractors.
  3. 3Ask who covers a visit if a caregiver calls out, and whether the cost changes.
  4. 4Ask whether there is a minimum number of hours per visit or per week.
  5. 5Ask about contracts: can you increase, reduce, or stop care without a penalty?

The fastest way to a real figure is the free assessment. We come to the house, see the day as it actually runs, and build a schedule around it. You get the price in writing, and you decide from there.
